Nien Embroidery: Taiwan; Nien Pi-hua is a jewelry and embroidery artist based in Taipei, Taiwan. Starting from 1980s, she was among one of the first to revive and reinvent the art of Chinese embroidery. Having received advanced training from the Royal College of Art and the Nottingham Trent University in England, Nien successfully incorporated Chinese embroidery into jewelry and metalwork, fashioning a new style that aptly synthesizes the East and the West, the traditional and the modern. In 1991, Nien Pi-hua established the Nien Design Company in Taipei, specializing in creative jewelry and textile designs. Her studio was the first of its kind to appear in the city of Taipei, and she is most known for her subtle integration of Chinse symbolism in her innovative work. She is also a consultant of Taipei Palace Museum of textile collection.
